Roster Reset: Blue Jackets could get boost from young playersColumbus seems prepared to build internally after AHL affiliate wins Calder CupHeading into last season, the Columbus Blue Jackets appeared ready to establish themselves as a Stanley Cup Playoff team following a strong finish to 2014-15.But the bottom fell out with a 0-8-0 start that cost coach Todd Richards his job and led to a nightmare season when they went 34-40-8.The Blue Jackets took care of some important business, re-signing defenseman Seth Jones to a six-year contract June 29 and surprising many by selecting forward Pierre-Luc Dubois with the third pick in the 2016 NHL Draft, but have had a mostly quiet offseason in terms of adding players through trades and free agency.

My Opinion on the Blue Jackets First Round Pick

My Opinion on the Blue Jackets First Round Pick
During the draft lottery a few months back, the Columbus Blue Jackets got lucky for the first time essentially their draft history. They moved up from fourth (as in the fourth best odds to get the number one pick) into third, luckily getting the third pick in the draft that was pegged to have the 'big three'.American center Auston Matthews was essentially a consciences number one, but Finnish wingers Patrik Laine and Jesse Puljujärvi were also a class above the rest, and according to all experts those three had separated themselves as the only three who were NHL ready immediately.
